📍 Venue: Watersmeet Island Community Space

Stannington Road (bottom, opposite Lidl), S6 5FL

🎤 Hosted by: Hidden Sheffield Walks

About the Event

Join us for a walking tour around the community gardens and open spaces of Hillsborough, Malin Bridge, Wisewood, and Wadsley, whilst looking at the history of the area. The event will be part of the launch of a walking trail project linking the sites.

The area has a number of community gardens where local residents are transforming empty land into green spaces for all. We will be taking a tour visiting all the sites involved in the Green Open Spaces Hillsborough (GOSH) project, whilst taking in numerous points of historical interest along the way. From the 1864 Great Flood, to the grand houses and social history we can still see today, we will be telling the stories of the streets on our route.

The start point for the tour is adjacent to the number 81/82 bus route, and close to the blue tram route terminus at Malin Bridge. There should be nearby parking available although that cannot be guaranteed. We will meet beside the 'Watersmeet Island' information board opposite the entrance to the Lidl car park. The walk will finish at the Holme Lane Community Garden, a few minutes walk from the starting point, and which is on the same transport routes.
