SUMMARY:Creating and Managing Meadows and Scrub Day 2 : Urban Issues and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:This is the second day of a 2-day seminar, people are welcome to attend just one day. - With human communities now mostly urban, and the spread of urban and peri-urban zones to 'grey the green' there must be a focus on ways to bring nature to the city, and to reconnect urban dwellers with natural processes - in the city but also in the countryside beyond. Wilder parks, greener roadsides, vibrant woodlands, and rewilding rivers add to opportunities in gardens large and small, to transform city nature and reconnect urban people. Expensive but boring, mown grass can easily generate cost-effective native wildflower meadows to benefit peoples' health and trigger a biodiversity revolution. Furthermore, the vital 'edge' between meadow and woodland is often lacking in town parks, but we will show how this essential habitat can transform urban nature. We will present and share examples of good practice and innovation to demonstrate how the urban wilding revolution can happen and is happening. There will be speakers from Eden Project North, Plantlife, the Groundwork Trust and the National Nature Education Park. There is a cost for this event and pre-bookings are required via our event webpage.
