About the Event

Time: 1.50 in time to start walking at 2pm
Meet: in the Ecclesfield park car park off the Common, (opposite Morrisons), S35 9AEΒ
Β We meet in the Park car park (opposite Morrisons and go back to Morrisons after the walk to socialise in their Community Room. A wheels friendly option is alwasy available.
The Ecclesfield walk started on the12th April 2001 in partnership with Mill Road surgery and walkers used to meet outside the surgery every Wednesday and return to the surgery for refreshments afterwards. Covid 19 unfortunately put paid to those arrangements but the walkers continued to meet in the small car park off 'The Common' opposite Morrisons in Ecclesfield which is conveniently near the bus stop. One of the volunteers took a table, hot water, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits so walkers could enjoy a free cuppa together when they finished their walk. Then, in June 2023Β Maddie, the Community Champion at Morrisons very kindly came to the rescue! The group now socialise after their walk in the lovely Morrison's Community Room. This venue will be especially appreciated when the winter weather returns.
In the past the group have very occasionally travelled off site to walk. Those with transport provide lifts for those without and they set off at 2pm from the car park in Ecclesall Park. More Hall reservoir, Worsborough Mill, Wheata Woods and Elsecar are some of the off-site options available to choose from.
Each week a short-walk option is available in addition to the main walk. The short walk might last anywhere between 20 minutes and 40 minutes depending upon the weather and the fitness of the walkers on any given day. The main walk lasts up to an hour.
Ecclesfield Park itself is a 12-hectare greenspace with lots of amenities including a bandstand, a bowling green and pavilion, a community garden, a childrenβs playground and a multi-use play area. The paths are well surfaced and level making them ideal for wheelchair users. The Trans Pennine Trail provides some alternative walks for those walkers able to walk a little further.Β
