Description | Actor and art historian Paul O’Keeffe delivers his second lecture, Traffic, first delivered April 1864 by John Ruskin. When a committee of Bradford citizens invited Ruskin to advise them on the design of a new Exchange they intended to build, they got more than they bargained for. Arguing that good architecture cannot come out of social and economic injustice, he delivered a passionate attack on the very system of capitalism itself. 2019 marks the bicentenary of Ruskin's birth and this is part of a season of talks, events and activities at Sheffield Central Library celebrating the ideas and legacies of John Ruskin Events are all free but must be booked in advance via www.sheffieldlibraries.eventbrite.co.uk |
