Description Want to know more about Sheffield's ancient woodland? Would you like to gain confidence in identifying trees and learn to recognise which are the oldest? Interested in finding out how people have shaped the woods over the centuries and how people are managing the woods today? Join Sheffield Woodland Connections, a group of University of Sheffield Landscape Department alumni, on an interpretative walk through Ecclesall Woods. With our various expertise in ecology, art and landscape architecture, we will reveal the magic of the largest ancient semi-natural woodland in South Yorkshire. Our October walks will provide an opportunity to learn about this special landscape while soaking up the autumnal atmosphere.          These walks have been created to promote the aims of the Woodland Trust's ‘Charter for Trees, Woods and People’, a campaign that highlights the importance of the UK's woodlands. As this is an interactive project, we want to hear your questions and thoughts. We will be measuring trees to establish their age and recording them on a tree survey form. So bring along a fabric tape measure if you have one. A new website map is being launched - sheffieldwoodlandconnections.co.uk - and we are inviting contributions to it, either from people participating in the walks or from anyone else who has been inspired by the woods. This can take the form of a photograph, drawing, video, sound clip or text, and can be from anywhere in the woods as long as you can locate it on the map. If you do come and join us please bring cameras, pens and paper.
