David Leffman was born and grew up in Britain, took a degree in photography, spent twenty years in Australia, and then came home in 2009. Since 1990 he's worked primarily as a travel writer, authoring guidebooks to Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Iceland for Rough Guides, Dorling Kindersley and others.
During his year travelling the world, Davis has also ghost-written a Chinese cookbook and contributed articles on everything from martial arts to horse racing and crime. His "Mercenary Mandarin", the biography of the nineteenth-century British adventurer William Mesny, who became a general in the Chinese military, was published in 2016.
