The Topping Tooters of the Town! An Evening with the Doncaster Waites - 7pm – 8.45pm
The Doncaster Waites invite you to a unique evening of renaissance music and readings. Learn about the history of their instruments and the story of the Waites in Sheffield and Doncaster. There will also be an exhibition of their instruments and the opportunity to examine them closely and ask questions.
The Doncaster Waites is a group of local musicians who aim to recreate the Waites of Doncaster as they were around the 1600’s. Waites was the term given to describe musicians who were employed by town and city corporations to provide music for civic events and also to act as night watchmen. A band of waits existed in Doncaster from 1457-1831.and the records for the Sheffield Waits date back to at least1567.
