Time 10:30 until 12:00
Meet At Junction of Livesey Street and Club Mill Road
Organised By Friends of Wardsend Cemetery
Description Description of Tour – A 90 minute walk through the history, living and dead, of the cemetery and the surrounding area. The cemetery is a living history of the St Philip's parish and beyond. A fascinating insight into the ethereal mixture of social history and ecology. We have stories of life and death in Victorian times intermingled with the equally interesting wildlife that today inhabits the cemetery. Join us on the tour and experience Wardsend for yourself. Public Transport – buses numbers 7 & 86 Stagecoach and number 8 First Mainline. From city centre the buses stop at B&Q and St John's the Evangelist church/Swann Morton along Penistone Rd. At the junction of Penistone Road and Bradfield Rd turn right cross over road and walk down Livesey St following it around the Greyhound Track and past Hillsborough College, carry on over the River Bridge and we meet by the steps at Cooper's car spares. For visitors coming towards Sheffield the same bus stops apply but turn left down Livesey St. Car Parking – Park after the bridge there is room for up to 7-8 cars, please park carefully so as to allow other vehicles to park. General Notes – We advise that visitors wear casual outdoor clothing and strong footwear due to the uphill and uneven terrain of the ground. Visitors with mobility problems may find the tour difficult.
